What is it?

Entomite is the trade name used by Zonda Resources and Koppert Biological Systems for the predatory mite Hypoaspis (Gaeolaelaps) aculeifer.  Adults are tan/brown in colour, approx 1mm long and tend to move very fast.  Larvae and first nymphal stages are white.  The mites can usually be seen on or just below the surface of the soil or media. Entomite rarely occurs on plants

What does it do?

The predatory mites hunt, kill and eat sciarid fly larvae, eggs, and the larvae and pupae of thrips and other soil dwelling insects.  Collembola, nematodes, bulb and pollen cap  mites are also eaten.
