What is it? Spidex is the trade name used by Zonda Resources and Koppert Biological Systems for the predatory mite Phytoseiulus persimilis. The predator mites (SPIDEX) actually hunt, kill and eat two-spotted mites (Tetranychus urticae) that they find in the crop. They are very efficient predators, and will stay in one area until all two-spotted mites have been eaten before moving into a new spot. Once they have eaten all two-spotted mites in the greenhouse, they will finally die or move out of the house unless there are new two-spotted mites moving into the crop to feed them. |
